The project “La Sorgente” (The Spring) is a social bet based on trust in the natural fraternity and idealism that colour the mind of every teenager. It doesn’t matter whether the environment in which they grow is ethically unhealthy if, at least, they can count on a few mentors who, with their own example of goodwill and human integrity, act as models of ideal and altruistic behaviour.
Catania’s Angeli Custodi neighbourhood with its history of chronically tolerated delinquency, is the human laboratory where the Stella Polare Non-profit Foundation is launching a cultural aggregation centre, capable of offering adolescents sport and
artistic activities and, above all, a stimulus to discover their individual passion, inclination and excellence.
The goal is to provide support for building a viable path to generate work options around those passions, possibly cooperatively with European grants for economic and social development. Generally, these grants remain largely unutilized in Sicily due to the
lack of suitable projects.
What we offer
• Vitality lives in sport. We offer aggregating sport activities such as soccer, volleyball, table tennis, and a gym where a personal trainer guides the children in functional training.
• The colours of the soul. The external facade and the entire interior of the indoor facility dedicated to the activities, is being decorated by the children themselves to encourage them in expressing their feelings through painting.
• The music that moves the world. Frequent concerts of live music, both modern and classical, are organized to motivate the boys to study music. In addition, a music therapist offers music therapy sessions to overcome stress and inner traumas.
• The movement as an expression. Dance workshops and routines of various dance genres, ranging from classical to modern to exotic, not only facilitate aggregation but will also encourage the self-expression of aesthetic development and appreciation for beauty.
• Tales of life. Through theatre workshops, we give scope to the children’s desire to talk, to share impressions and hopes, to free what they love in the heart with the help of words married to feelings and with great benefit to understanding, an indispensable ingredient in developing mutual respect.
• In balance with yoga. Qualified yoga teachers regularly offer lessons of yogic exercises and meditation techniques, so useful to balance the mind, drive one’s passions and find the sense of living fully in the present
• Overcome boundaries with English! Native speaker teachers will conduct courses to learn English and other languages, to widen the cultural and working capacity of adolescents, helping them to network with their peers in other parts of the world.
• To the discovery of design. A space equipped with computers and 3D printers will be set up to teach children how to create and materialize design objects, and how to market them online.
• A beautiful smile is not denied to anyone. A basic dental clinic will also be built to offer to the children and their families oral hygiene education and simple orthodontic and dental procedures.
• The emergency hostel. In an area separate but contiguous to the structure, a maximum of 8 beds will be offered with all the facilities needed to accommodate adolescents in need of temporary shelter, with supervision.
