Satsaunga September 2020

Baba once said that newsletters are His food. This suggests that He felt some nourishment (mental rather than physical), as He found out through the newsletters, what is happening with Ananda Marga around the world.

From the beginning days of Ananda Marga, Baba always added practices, ideas or theories. At the time of each of these additions, Margiis may simply have thought, “Oh, I wonder why Baba decided to do that.” Or “Oh, that’s quite a surprise.”

But looking back we can start to make some sense of why Baba added certain aspects of Ananda Marga at certain times.

For example, at the end of 1954 Baba started giving philosophical talks to the Margiis. We can see now that any Mission, any spiritual society, needs a philosophical foundation, so its members understand the purpose of the Mission, and understand the best way to live their lives.

When Ananda Marga became formalised in 1955 one of the first instructions Baba gave was to establish a jagrti. And soon we could see that this is critical for the growth and establishment of Ananda Marga anywhere. Jagrit means ‘a place of awakening’ and indeed, a person needs to wake up before they can do anything. And we need to wake up as an organisation to know what is best to do at one or another time. And from those early years, Baba started devising different departments of the organisation. Each of these has an important role in establishing the universal society of Ananda Marga.

Kaoshikii, among other things, puts women on an equal footing with men, as certain of women’s physical and psychic needs are now resolved. And Prabhat Sangeet: In the words of Dada Dhruvananda, quoted herein, Baba felt kindness for humanity and so composed Prabhat Sangeet. A good source to get a daily experience of Prabhat Sangeet is here:

I hope we can enjoy and learn more about these two events in our history, through this newsletter and in our daily lives.
